Police Scotland Officers say the 83 year-old was walking on Glasgow Road, near to its junction with Cameron Square in Clydebank, when she was struck by a Saab 9-3 car at around 7.15pm.

The elderly pedestrian was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary in Glasgow where she is being treated for head and chest injuries. Hospital staff there describe her condition as serious.

The woman driver of the Saab was uninjured.

Inspector Adam McKenzie of the Road Policing Department based at Dumbarton Police Office said today: “Our enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash and we are appealing for anyone with information on this incident to come forward.

“Glasgow Road is always very busy, and at the time of the crash last night many people would have been travelling home from work. I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have information that will help our enquiries to contact 101 – the non-emergency number for Police Scotland.”
