House prices rocket
HOUSE prices in West Dunbartonshire rocketed in the last three months of 2011, official figures have shown.
Last week the Registers of Scotland (ROS) published statistics which showed that between October and December last year the average price of homes in the area rose to £121,966 - an increase of six per cent from the same period in 2010.
The sharp rise in the property value was also unveiled to be the largest recorded increase throughout the country.
West Dunbartonshire showed the largest rise in the number of sales in country with 28.6 per cent more sales taking place at the end of last year when compared with the previous year.
The total value of house sales throughout the area also showed the highest increase in Scotland, rising by a whopping 36.3 per cent.
Estate agent Stuart Barriskell, of SB Property, said: "There's improvement just now as we come into what is historically a busy time.
"Most agencies will say that as it's historically a time when because people will have made up their minds, got Christmas and New Year out the road, and then decide what they'll do."
According to the ROS figures the average price of a house in West Dunbartonshire has gone up from £115,019 to £121,966 - a stark contrast to the rest of the country where house prices have decreased by 0.5 per cent.
