COMMUNITY and volunteering groups are being urged to take part in a vital census to ensure their needs are met in the future.
Currently the selfless acts of residents is worth around £45,000 to the economy in West Dunbartonshire.
Around 9,000 people contribute more than 45,000 hours of their time every week.
The census, being conducted by the West Dunbartonshire Community and Volunteering Services (WDCVS), aims to collect as much information as possible on the current activity of the third sector before the end of the month.
And they are urging as many organisations as possible to get in touch.
Martin Docherty, of WDCVS, said: "Every two years we gather the full range of information needed to help us plan and provide future support services, around funding, charity regulation and training to volunteers and the wider voluntary sector alike.
"This data can also be used by local organisations and groups as supporting material for planning and application purposes.
"Through this, we can help improve the communities of West Dunbartonshire."
Previous census results have have helped to influence funding streams from the council and identify gaps in current service provision.
And although the WDCVS can identify nearly 1,000 organisations across the area, many are still unaccounted for.
Martin added: "For a range of reasons organisations cannot be contacted, some don't want to be, some don't advertise, and some don't identify as being a voluntary group at all.
"For example many churches do not view themselves as voluntary organisations even though most of them are registered charities and provide support and comfort through individuals who are not paid.
"For that reason we would urge as many organisations as possible, small and large from those involved in sport, youth services, faith groups, housing and homelessness, emergency services to health to get in touch and play their part in showing the worth of the community and volunteering sector in West Dunbartonshire to the wider community, funders, and government."
To take part, visit www.wdcvs.com/census, email census@wdcvs.com. or call 0141 280 0125, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Evening sessions are available.
