UNDERCOVER police officers are travelling on buses after three services were attacked by mindless youths.

Stones were thrown through the windows in the separate incidents last week as horrified passengers looked on.

Thankfully no-one was injured during the attacks which took place in streets in Drumchapel during the evenings of Friday January 6 and Sunday January 8.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for information on the attacks and have now placed officers on the affected routes in an effort to protect passengers and witness any possible future incidents.

Two buses were targeted on Merryton Avenue on the evening of both dates while another was targeted on Kinfauns Drive at 6.10pm on the Sunday.

Andy McDowall, Drumchapel Communities Inspector, has condemned the actions of those involved and warned when they are caught they could face jail time.

He said: "Strathclyde Police are deploying plain clothed officers on buses in these locations.

"It goes without saying breaking bus windows with passengers on board with the driver driving is an exceptionally dangerous thing to do and as a result of that the offence of culpable and reckless conduct reflects that.

"This charge does carry a custodial sentence.

"Investigating officers are viewing CCTV for the area and are liaising with First Bus.

"I would encourage anyone with any information relating to these incidents to come forward.

"These mindless acts, carried out on vehicles carrying local residents will not be tolerated in Drumchapel and the surrounding area."
