2012 town centre plans unveiled
MERCURY will rise again - and that's just one of the plans for the town's regeneration company in 2012.
Despite a slash in funding, Clydebank Rebuilt (CR) has a number of projects in the pipeline, including completion of the Town Hall revamp.
This week it was revealed that the bronze statue of Mercury - which toppled from the top of the Town Hall clock during a fierce storm in January 1968 - will take pride of place in the new lobby.
CR's annual report also states that preparation work will begin for the new leisure centre at Queen's Quay.
Massive cash shortfall
But both public and private funding to CR is dropping this year, with the shortfall possibly reaching £3m.
Eleanor McAllister, managing director, said: "We are less than mid-way through our 20-year regeneration programme for Clydebank.
"There is still much to do.
"Yet these are difficult economic times with public funding reducing and private investment uncertain.
"The support of the board, our partners, our funders and the staff team is much appreciated during this challenging time."
The £3.3m refurbishment of Clydebank Town Hall will be completed in 2012.
And 12 workshops for rent by businesses will be built behind the petrol station on Glasgow Road.
