Childhood friends' surprise reunion
Two old friends who had not seen each other for 60 years, were brought back together in a surprise reunion.
Jean Watson, 83, lived next door to David Mitchell as a child in Knightswood, and the two were inseparable as youngsters.
They were friends right up until their 20s, but then they both got married and moved away from the area.
However, a few weeks ago while reminiscing about the past, Jean mentioned David to her daughter-in-law Roseanne Watson.
Roseanne set out on a mission to reunite the pair and managed to track David down to his home in Killearn, Stirling.
She asked him to attend Jean's birthday meal and the old friends were able to pick up were they had left off six decades earlier.
Roseanne said: "I thought it would be a nice surprise to reunite her with David after almost 60 years.
"It really was so rewarding to see the shock on their faces when we first arrived.
"David did tell me all the memories came flooding back to him as he saw Jean emerge from the car."
David greeted Jean with a bunch of flowers and told her "now Jean don't collapse."
Jean was really pleased to see her old friend again and said the two were more like brother and sister when they were children.
She said: "As neither of us had any brothers or sisters we grew up doing everything together.
"We played every day and we were in the same class at school so we use to cheat and do our homework together.
"It was a lovely surprise as I often wondered how he was and what he was doing.
"We drifted apart after we got married as distance separated us, and no doubt we will keep in touch now. It was a lovely surprise and a most enjoyable day."
