Google Maps' major blunder
A whole section of Old Kilpatrick has been labelled wrongly on Google street maps.
The popular website, used by millions across the world to locate addresses, has got completely incorrect names for several streets.
Oronsay Place is called Coral Gardens, Bute Gardens is Buchanness Drive, Tiree Gardens is White Gates Drive, Oronsay Crescent is West Road, and - perhaps strangest of all - Oronsay Drive is called Bosies Bank Way.
The error was flagged up to the Post by Hardgate resident Sam Gibson.
Sam said: "Bosies Bank Way caught my eye right away because I know the names of most of the streets and I had never heard of that.
"There were about ten names that were wrong or had been added on - there were names given to odd corners that don't actually have names."
When the correct street names are typed into the search bar, Google pinpoints the right places - but the wrong names are written on the map.
Google says it strives for accuracy but admitted sometimes mistakes are made.
A spokeswoman said: "The street name information contained in Google Maps comes from third party data providers, TeleAtlas.
"Where errors have been identified people can contact the data provider at http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php";
The Post has informed TeleAtlas of the mistakes.
