Police came under attack on Bonfire Night when ignited fireworks were thrown at officers.

The assault took place in Braes Avenue, Whitecrook, where an illegal bonfire had been dismantled, and where there has been trouble on previous Guy Fawkes Nights.

Seven arrests were made on Braes Avenue alone, and a number of fixed penalty fines were issued for disorder.

Officers also came under attack in Lawmuir Crescent, Faifley, where bottles and cans were thrown at them.

In addition to the Bonfire Night crimes, police were called to deal with 260 incidents in total over the weekend.

A total of 57 people were arrested and 21 of those spent the weekend in the cells.

However, the night was billed as quiet by both police and fire brigade, in comparison to previous years where property such as cars have been set alight.
