Clydebank dragon Duncan Banantyne made a passionate defence on behalf of his home town, on last week's episode of Dragons' Den.

Duncan, 62, grew up in the town and lived here until he made his fortune.

Fraser Sinnott, who appeared on last Tuesday's episode, upset Duncan's Bankie roots when he suggested that Clydebank Shopping Centre was in Glasgow.

He was looking for £120,000 to invest in his self-service mobility scooter facility for shopping centres.

Anyone needing a mobility scooter to get around the shops could insert £5 into his docking station which would release a scooter.

When finished they would return the scooter and get a £2 refund.

But Fraser, who hails from Glasgow, made his fatal error when asked what shopping centres had agreed to take the scooters.

Dragon Theo Paphitis asked: "Tell me one shopping centre that says they are going to take these."

Fraser replied: "Clydebank Shopping Centre in Glasgow."

Bankie Duncan piped up immediately.

He said: "I have to tell you Fraser, Clydebank Shopping Centre is in Clydebank which is not in Glasgow.

"Very, very upset that you would call Clydebank, Glasgow."

Fraser did not dare challenge him, but English dragon Peter Jones asked: "Why?"

Duncan said: "Because I'm from Clydebank not Glasgow. What's it to do with you?"

Duncan then shook his hand at Peter saying: "Jaggy bunnet wallop."

The jibe was taken in good humour by all concerned but Fraser left the den without investment.

Presenter Evan Davis quipped: "Fortunately no jaggy bunnet wallop for Peter Jones but unfortunately for Fraser there was no cash on offer."

Clydebank Shopping Centre confirmed they had been in talks with Fraser but his scooters never made it into the centre.

The new shopmobility service recently opened at the centre does not feature Fraser's scooters and is also free to use.

Episode nine of Dragons' Den features the altercation and is available to view at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
