Elvis play shakes up classrooms
A play about Elvis - penned by a woman from the area - is being turned into a teaching tool for schools.
Linda Ann McConnell, 44, from Scotstoun, published a book call The Memphis Lullaby, which charts Elvis' life from small boy right through to becoming an international superstar.
She adapted that book into a play for children called The Dreamer, which incorporates Elvis' stories and music, and encourages the children involved to talk about their own dreams and how they should follow them.
Elvis himself was a self-confessed "dreamer" as a child.
Garscadden Primary in Yoker put on a performance of The Dreamer, and attracted hundreds of people to come along and watch.
Linda Ann now hopes to put together a new book setting out how the play can be used as an educational tool.
She said: "I think I'll probably be launching it next year which will coincide with the 35th anniversary of Elvis' death.
"You think you'll be going into schools and children won't know who Elvis is, but they do.
"There were over 200 people came to the evening show at Garscadden and they were all different ages."
