A FOOTBALL daft Bankie actor is appearing on television in his dream role as a passionate fan.

James McAnerney, 35, features in the new Carling lager adverts which follow four football-mad supporters in several humorous scenes filmed in locations across Scotland.

During the commercial James and three co-stars can be seen cheering from a mini football stand which appears in random locations, including Glasgow’s George Square to the Forth Road Bridge.

Described as “witty mini-films”, they are being screened before and after 60 Scottish Premier League games on Sky and ESPN throughout the 2010/11 season.

The films show a passionate group of football devotees in their usual match day seats, which have been removed from their stands and go on a tour of Scotland from lochs to mountain peaks, docks to factories.

The fanatics in the film are so into Scottish football, they react to even the slightest glimpse of action.

The Celtic supporter from Whitecrook admits he had no problem fitting into the role, as he has had plenty of rehearsal time cheering on the Hoops.

James said: “It was great fun - we were filming over three days and went to locations all over Scotland to do the scenes, it was interesting travelling about.

“I’m used to shouting at the Celtic games so it was pretty easy - I didn’t exactly have to do any method acting for it.”

James added: “The first time I watched the advert was at half time during the Celtic v Inverness game and I realised they had used my voice for the voice over.

“They had recorded a few of us for that, so it was nice that they used mine.”

The former St Andrew’s High School pupil has worked in television in the past playing small parts in Rebus, Taggart and River City.

And the six-foot plus actor is now set to play Little John in The magical Adventures of Robin Hood, alongside Jim Davidson in the Pavillion Theatre this Christmas.
