RAID: Police prepare to storm a flat in Braes Avenue

AN early morning police raid netted £65,000 of cocaine which was allegedly being dealt from a house in Clydebank.

Specially prepared cops stormed the property as suspected drug dealers were simultaneously targeted across the area.

Some 150 officers were drafted for the West Dunbartonshire-wide 19-hour crackdown on drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour dubbed Operation Fleet.

A total of nine people face drugs charges as a result of Friday’s action.

Operation Fleet began at 7am when four teams of plain clothed cops and support officers in heavy duty suits were dispatched from the operational nerve-centre in Dumbarton’s Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

Three convoys of marked police vans and unmarked cars headed for Clydebank with two squads swooping on addresses in Whitecrook, while the other team was dispatched to Dalmuir.

A fourth team struck in the Vale of Leven.

During the Clydebank raid, a specially equipped squad was deployed to Braes Avenue, forced entry and searched a property there.

A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly possessing and supplying cocaine.

Around 1.2 kilos of the class A drug was allegedly found.

The man was also charged with allegedly possessing heroin.

Chief Inspector Ian Wallace, of Clydebank police, co-ordinated Operation Fleet and praised residents for tipping off the cops about possible alleged dealers. He said: “Community intelligence is the only way we can operate - without that vital link we would not be doing this. We are always looking for more intelligence from the community, so our message is - if you see any suspicious activity, then let us know.

“Operation Fleet was a great success for the police and will have a wider impact on the illegal drug trade across the Clydebank area.”
