FAMILY: (L-R) Son Alister Kirkwood, dad Donald, daughter Caroline, and wife Elizabeth
The daughter of a seriously ill pensioner is appealing for help to source her father’s dream birthday gift - a model of the QE2.
Donald Kirkwood, 74, worked on the famous Clydebank liner, as a crane driver at John Brown’s.
His health is deteriorating following a number of strokes and with his 75th birthday approaching in September, his daughter Caroline Kirkwood, 47, wants to make it really special by giving him a model of the QE2.
However, she is having difficulty getting hold of one and is appealing to anyone who has model they may be willing to give or sell to her - or who knows where she might find one - to get in touch.
Caroline said: “My dad loves ships - he has a model of the Titanic and the HMS Victory and the HMS Sunflower.
“But the ultimate would be the QE2 because he worked on that one. I’m hoping somebody in Clydebank somewhere can help me.”
Donald has suffered a number of strokes which have affected his mobility.
However, his mind can still revisit a lifetime of memories and he loves talking about his time in the shipyards and working on the QE2.
Anyone who thinks they can help Caroline out with a model can contact the Post newsroom on 0141 952 0565.
