THE cream of comedy talent is set to have Bankies rolling in the aisles with a night of stand up in the town.

Funnymen from the famous Stand comedy club are training their sights on Clydebank Town Hall after a sports club came up with the idea to host the event.

Tickets are expected to be like golddust for the fun-filled night with four of Scotland's top jokesters.

The event is the brainchild of Iain Macdonald, 35, from Old Kilpatrick, who wanted a variation on his football team's traditional sportsman dinner.

Iain and Kilpatrick FC chairman Gerry Gilroy felt an event to tickle the tastebuds of a broader section of Bankies was needed, so came up with the ambitious plan, which they hope will fill the hall to the rafters with 400 revellers.

Iain, the club treasurer, has secured The Stand regulars Jeff O'Boyle, Bob Doolally, John Gillick and Graeme Thomas for the bash.

He told the Post: "We felt that the demand for live stand up in general was at an all time high and we were keen to tap into that market as a unique way of raising funds and having a great night out.

"Parents were tired of seeing sponsor sheets for a walk over the Erskine Bridge and were delighted to start supporting this type of project."

As well as the £15 tickets to see the comedy, a £50 VIP package has been put together, which includes an Indian buffet at The Ettrick Bar in Old Kilpatrick, transport to and from the venue, premium table seating in the venue, arrival drinks and a waitress service for the cash bar during the performances.

The comedy night takes place on Saturday October 2 at the Town Hall.
