A POLICE car hurtled into a taxi as it responded to an emergency call, an eyewitness has said.
The early-morning smash on Thursday put three men in hospital, with the policeman who was driving said to be in a stable condition.
The other men were released later that day as an investigation team closed off Dumbarton Road for three-and-a-half hours.
The impact came near the junction of Dumbarton Road and Burns Street, in Dalmuir, around 12.20am.
One man who saw the drama unfold told the Post: "The police car had its lights and sirens on and was heading east along the road.
"It tried to go past another car but I don't think it saw the taxi there.
"It was really wet and rainy and they hit the taxi hard.
"The noise brought a lot of people out to watch - it's a miracle nobody was killed."
A spokesman for road policing said the 37-year-old driver of the police car was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary, where he is in a stable condition.
The 25-year-old passenger of the police car was treated for minor injuries and released.
The 35-year-old Hackney cab driver was also treated in hospital for injuries and later released.
Inspector Paul Reilly from the Road Policing department is continuing enquiries to establish the circumstances of the crash.
Witnesses are asked to contact him at Dumbarton police office on 01389 822123.
