SPECIAL events have been arranged in memory of a dad-of-four who sadly passed away after a long battle with illness.

Stephen Burns - or Burno - died of bowel cancer in April this year aged 43, after a brave three-and-a-half year fight.

Friends and staff at a pub where he often spent his free time have organised two big fundraising ventures.

The money raised will go to St Margaret's Hospice in Whitecrook where he spent his final days.

The Glenhead Tavern in Duntocher has arranged a beach party-themed family fun day in its grounds and a group of Stephen's friends are walking the West Highland Way.

Stephen's wife Diane said: "Staff at the hospice just treated us like family - they would do anything for you.

"He went into the hospice on the Wednesday and passed away on the Saturday.

"We had known for the previous few weeks that there wasn't really anything else we could do.

"He had been fighting the cancer for nearly three-and-half-years and taken every treatment available.

"But he never let it get him down at all - Stephen never looked ill.

"It was only at the very end that people really saw him deteriorate.

"It's great that the pub is raising money for the hospice and The Burno Trek is a really fitting tribute to him.

"If he was here he would be joining them.

"He was a great husband, and a great father and a great friend to so many."

The Glenhead Tavern is holding the Beach Party on Sunday July 18 from 1pm to 7pm in the grounds of the pub on Dumbarton Road, Duntocher.

There will be a bouncy castle, gladiator duels, sumo wrestling, bungee runs, face painting, cocktails, charity waxing, raffles and live music.

Entry is £5 per adult, £2 per child and £10 for a family.
