AN online army of nostalgic Bankies has signed up to back the repair of a former town landmark.
The maritime animated clock in Clydebank shopping centre has lain still and silent for years but once was a novelty which crowds would flock round when it sprung to life on the hour.
A group was started on internet networking site Facebook by a Bankie who yearned for the return of the MV Clydebank's hourly sea shanty and it quickly snowballed into a huge show of support.
The page, called "I Remember the Clydebank Clock!", now has more than 1,300 fans united under the simple banner, "we want it fixed!".
In February the Post revealed that Clyde Shopping Centre manager Andrew Forrester was looking for information about the animated musical clock with the possibility of having it renovated and restored in mind.
The response to the article was fantastic and the shopping centre supremo now hopes to have an announcement about the future of the clock in the coming weeks.
Mr Forrester said: "I think it's fantastic to see so many people remembering the clock.
"Thanks to the Post feature earlier this year we had the original designer of the clock contact us and we are speaking just now to the maker of it.
"It is ongoing and it is very hopeful.
"But that amount of people showing support online just goes to show the awareness and depth of feeling for the clock in Clydebank."
