MUSIC fans of all ages can experience a trip back in time as a unique exhibition reaches the town.
A show of record sleeve art - featuring 50 of the best examples of design from the hey day of LPs - is running for the next month at the Backdoor Gallery in Dalmuir Library.
Music aficionados have long mourned the move from LPs to CDs, not just for the feel and crackle of vinyl but for the interesting cover artwork that came with many albums.
These 50 hand selected sleeves from the curator's own collection of more than 1,000 records features a variety of styles and bands from obscure artists to world-wide stars.
Mark Nixon, the exhibition curator from Scottish Independent Touring Exhibitions (SITE), said he was inspired to take the artwork on the road by a friend who was awe-struck by his colossal collection.
Mark told the Post: "I think the really interesting thing about record sleeve design is it's a large palette but the dimensions forces you into a unique design drawing the eye of the customer in a busy shop.
"Later you had fold-outs and other innovations but basically it's a twelve by twelve which was a college of discovery for designers."
The exhibition runs in the Backdoor Gallery, Dalmuir Library, Lennox Place, until April 30 and Mark Nixon will be giving a talk and discussion on LP art on April 29.
