A HOODED, knife-wielding raider brazenly walked in to a busy shop and demanded the till takings in front of stunned shoppers.

The daylight robber then took off on foot with his cash booty.

The robbery took place around 12pm at Farmfoods on Glasgow Road, Clydebank East, on Thursday.

One member of the staff - who did not want be named - told the Post: "The guy just wandered in off the street and the next thing he was grabbing the cash out the till.

"The shop was quite busy but it was over so quickly. These things stop surprising you I guess.

"He ran off across the road and we called the police - they've been great and we really hope he gets caught."

Detectives are appealing for witnesses as they hunt the armed criminal.

Police said that some shoppers who were in the store at the time of the robbery had left before they could be questioned and they have asked these people to get in touch as they may hold vital clues.

Police also pointed out that the raider may have been hanging around before he struck and is believed to have come from the direction of Whitecrook.

The robber, wearing a grey hoody and thick knitted scarf masking his face, bee-lined for the cash register where he threatened the staff and demanded the takings.

Detective Constable Martin Don, Clydebank CID, said: "I'm certain someone out there will have seen this man hanging around before the robbery or indeed fleeing along Glasgow Road afterwards.

"It is also believed that he approached the shop via Whitecrook and the Hamilton Street footbridge, so if anyone saw a man fitting the description in these areas please let us know."

The suspect is described as a white man, early 20s around 5ft 8in to 6ft tall, thin-medium build and was wearing a grey hooded top, dark jeans, white trainers and had a cream knitted scarf.
