Murdo McLeod signs up to Pie, Pint, Pundit

FOOTBALL legend Murdo McLeod is set to make his first public appearance since life-saving surgery brought him back from the brink.

The former Celtic, Dumbarton and Scotland stalwart is currently recovering from emergency heart surgery, which he received at the Golden Jubilee Hospital, but will greet his well-wishers in Clydebank Town Hall next month as the charity event of the year - A Pie, a Pint and a Pundit - returns.

Last year the event raised a fantastic £5,000 for the Davie Cooper Foundation and Drummore School in Drumchapel, and tickets were like gold dust for the night in with Old Firm legends Neil Lennon, Danny McGrain, Ally McCoist and Derek Johnstone.

With Murdo and renowned funnyman Tam Cowan the first big names to be confirmed for 2010, interest is sure to be high once more. Speaking to the Post this week, Tam said it would be an honour to turn up in the name of the late great ex-Bankies winger.

The staunch Motherwell fan said: "Davie Cooper is easily the best player I ever saw - I still remember the thrill when we signed him from Rangers.

"What he did at the club is still the best period of football I have seen from him signing in 1989 up to the cup win in 1991.

"Sometimes people say a bit of emotion comes into memories of players who are no longer with us, but Davie was just the best."

A Pie, a Pint and a Pundit is again being run by Drummore School teacher Lisa Monaghan, from Old Kilpatrick, and her dad, sports journalist Hugh Keevins. It takes place on Friday April 9 - details of more panel members and ticket arrangements will be revealed in the Post in the coming weeks.
