THE town's ever-smiling supermarket greeter - Jim O'Donnell - is turning his home into an art gallery to dodge paying hefty commission fees.

Jim, 54, who will be known to many from his job at the town's ASDA, has decided to open up his home to allow people to view his paintings, in a bid to boost his developing art career.

Dalmuir, which already has the Back Door Gallery, will soon have Jim's front door gallery and he is taking the venture very seriously by installing new windows, doors and flooring to transform his hall and front room into an enjoyable artistic experience for punters.

Married Jim, who has the backing of his wife Margaret, told the Post: "When you put your stuff into art galleries, the gallery tends to take quite a hefty commission - so why not do it in my own home?

"There's a few artists doing this type of thing now. It's really just a bit of fun to see how it goes. But I'm putting in new windows and doors. People will be able to come into the house and look at around sixty-five paintings in the hall and the big front room.

"It was a bedroom that we don't need any more."

Jim's home gallery should be opening in April this year.
