A BOXING trainer says he cannot sleep at night as he worries about the prospect of his club closing - while sports chiefs blew £50,000 on a new logo.
The massive spend by publicly funded Culture and Sport Glasgow (CSG) was slammed by David Savage Snr, who runs the Argo Boxing Club - one of the services which is set to close with the cash-driven decision to axe the centre.
He was outraged to learn that cash, which could have been used to provide sporting opportunities, was spent on a logo, while his young boxers are turfed on to the street.
He told the Post: "Culture and Sport is supposed to be pushing forward sport for young kids, and promoting the Commonwealth Games, but in deciding to close the Argo Centre it is sending 100 kids out on the streets with nothing to do.
"It sickens me thinking about it - I can't sleep at night thinking about what's going to happen to the kids."
The club is due to close on March 31.
CSG is currently trying to relocate the club.
Bill Kidd, MSP (SNP) for Glasgow, said: "Along with the announcement to close Knightswood Swimming Pool, the closure of the Argo at Dunkenny in Drumchapel is a sign that Culture and Sport has lost sight of its remit when we hear at the same time that it has wasted £50,000 paying private consultants for a new logo for its headed notepaper."
A spokesperson for CSG said: "The funding of Culture and Sport Glasgow's branding exercise has been met through its existing marketing budget and is designed to increase participation in the services it provides."
