A BOY has been praised for embodying the true spirit of Christmas and Clydebank after he donated his last pennies to St Margaret's Hospice.

Matthew Gallagher, 10, wanted to enter a raffle to win a picture he had taken a fancy to.

But the tickets were 50p each and Matthew only had 30p.

However, instead of keeping the money he decided to donate all he had to the cause of the raffle - St Margaret's, which is facing a funding crisis and a challenge for survival.

The fundraisers were so touched by the gesture that they have given him a painting worth £150.

Matthew's mum Susan Elliot used to work for the hospice and said he has always admired the work they do there.

So when he saw an art sale in the Clyde Shopping Centre, to raise funds for the hospice, the Drumry boy was naturally keen to do what he could.
