Two shop assistants were tied up as masked men robbed their store at gunpoint.

The two women - aged 22 and 30 - were working in the Spar store on Riddell Street, Drumry, at 10.30pm on Monday night when they were confronted by the two men.

The raiders are believed to have been carrying a firearm and threatened the two women.

They then tied them up and made off with a four-figure sum of money and some cigarettes.

The two women were left badly shaken but are uninjured.

The gunmen made off in a purple Vauxhall Corsa which has since been recovered by police.

The suspects are both white, and one was around 5ft 4ins tall, slim build, and was wearing a dark jacket, grey Adidas tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe, black Nike trainers with a silver tick logo, grey woollen gloves and a scarf.

The other was around 5ft 2ins tall and was wearing a grey jacket, denim jeans, brown trainers and a scarf.

The shop was open again for business on Tuesday although the manager did not want to make any comment on the robbery.

A spokesman for Spar Scotland said it did not wish to make any further comment until police investigations are completed.

Detective Inspector Ross McCallum, of Clydebank CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Riddell Street around the time of the robbery, or anyone who may have seen two men hanging around or acting in a suspicious manner, to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency."

Clydebank police can be contacted on 0141 532 3300 or witnesses can phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
