A PARK and ride facility which cost £150,000 to create is attracting NO commuters.
The "white elephant" car park near Kilbowie Roundabout is supposed to allow people to leave their cars and catch a bus, but at the moment it is lying empty and residents insist they have not seen anyone using it.
There was much confusion surrounding the park and ride when it was first proposed last year, but West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) insisted it would be used by people travelling to Clydebank town centre or Singer Station in the short term, and for fastlink journeys into Glasgow in the future.
However, Parkhall, North Kilbowie and Central Community Council, say its warnings that it would not be used are being borne out.
A spokesman said: "It's not getting much approval.
"We joke that we'll give a prize for the first person to spot a car parked in it.
"Park and rides are a big success when they are near train stations.
"You can hardly get a parking space a Dalmuir Station for example.
"But if you get on a bus in Kilbowie Road to go into Glasgow, you are just going to go into all the congested Clydebank traffic."
A WDC spokeswoman said: "The development of the site as a park and ride is currently in progress.
"SPT, operators and the council will come together early in 2010 to market the site as a park and ride."
