PLANS to build a towering tank farm at a whisky plant are being met with strong community opposition.

Drinks firm the Edrington Group is seeking planning permission to build 33 storage tanks at its Drumchapel whisky distillery just off the A82.

The heights of these tanks range from around 52ft to 26ft and residents are worried they will cause an unsightly blot on the landscape.

After the level of protest was demonstarted at a public meeting, Edrington chiefs hastily set up seperate discussions with area MSP Bill Kidd, Drumchapel Community Council and a representative group of 12 residents.

One of the residents, who later met with Edrington, told the Post: "Edrington showed us some plans and it seems the tanks aren't going to be where we thought they would be.

"There was some strong feeling but Edrington is having meetings with the council and other parties and we're just waiting to see what they come back with."

The Edrington Group said it is keen to work with the residents.

A spokesman said: "Last week we met the chairman and vice chairman of Drumchapel Community Council, twelve residents from Heathcot Avenue and Bill Kidd, MSP for Glasgow.

"We showed them the plans and location of the proposed tank farm and answered their queries and concerns."
