THE worried mum of a Clydebank man imprisoned in Germany claims her son has been "set up".
Charles Wright, 25, has been in custody since his beloved Celtic's showdown with Hamburg four weeks ago, accused of having fake Euros.
It is alleged the notes were in his hood, but his mum Pauline, who has spoken to his friends who were with him at the time, this week hit back and said he "never touched" the dodgy cash.
Pauline, from Dalmuir, told the Post: "Charles went over there with his friends for the game but he never even made it to the match.
"His friends told me they were with someone who had fake notes, but Charles never touched them."
Pauline said when the barmaid at the pub where her son and his fellow Celtic fans were drinking saw someone with bogus notes, she started shouting at Charles - who she is told was "very drunk", but had not used any of the fake money.
The mum said: "They decided to leave the pub to get away from it but as Charles came round the corner the police grabbed him.
"His friends saw the barmaid with the fake Euros in her hand and in the scuffle they ended up in his hood."
Charles, who was on his first ever trip away to see his football idols play in the European competition, has had contact from the British Embassy, which is assisting him.
