A DOG - allowed to starve by its cruel owners - had to be put out of its misery after it was found with serious health problems.
Animal welfare officers received a tip-off about the animal's poor condition.
Benji, a black and tan cross dachshund, was malnourished, stinking of urine, had severe dental problems and matted fur.
His owners - husband and wife David Neil, 52, and Helen Neil, 41 - admitted to officers from the SSPCA that they had not taken the animal to the vet for three years.
The Yoker couple pleaded guilty to causing the dog unnecessary suffering when they appeared in court on Monday.
