Sick attacker 'smiled' at one of his shocked victims
A PERVERT who preyed on sleeping women to satisfy his sexual urges has avoided being locked up.
Sick Andrew McFeeters, 47, even smiled at one of his victims when she woke as he was assaulting her, before calmly leaving the room.
The woman was too shocked to cry out.
Neither of the victims reported what had happened to the police at the time of the attacks - which were carried out separately.
However, on hearing McFeeters was out of the country one of the women felt able to go to the authorities, Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.
Malcolm McLeod, fiscal depute, told the court the first attack happened after McFeeters had been drinking.
McFeeters sneaked into the room the woman was in to begin his sick assault, the details of which are too graphic to print in a family newspaper.
But his victim jolted awake during the attack and screamed, forcing him to leave.
Mr McLeod then explained how McFeeters carried out an almost identical assault two months later on another sleeping woman, in similar circumstances.
He said this woman again woke up to find leering McFeeters carrying out his twisted act.
Mr McLeod added: "She was extremely alarmed but felt unable to communicate.
"[McFeeters] smiled at her and left the room without saying anything."
Mr McLeod said the second victim called the police when she found out that McFeeters had jetted off to Egypt in search of employment.
She and the other victim separately gave witness statements and McFeeters was contacted in the north African country by police asking him to return to answer the charges.
He admitted carrying out the first act between March 11 and May 16 last year, and the second attack on May 17, 2008, both in the Clydebank area.
Roddy Boag, defending, said McFeeters did not remember carrying out the first attack, but accepted he did because of the nature of the second attack, which he has full recollection of.
He added he had moved from his Kilbowie Road home to try and avoid running into his victims. Mr Boag said: "At the time of the offences he was suffering from a significant degree of depression.
"He was contacted by the police while in Egypt and he came back and has complied fully with every aspect of this case."
Sentencing, Sheriff Simon Pender said the attacks were clearly a serious matter but said he did not believe any real purpose would be served by sending McFeeters to jail.
Sheriff Pender placed McFeeters, now of 80b Banchory Avenue, Inchinnan, Paisley, on probation for three years - with the requirement to attend counselling for sex offenders - and ordered him to carry out 190 hours of community service.
He will be on the sex offenders register for the duration of his probation.
