A TEEN smashed the window of a black cab with a bottle after he thought the driver had snubbed him to pick up another fare.

Boozed-up Martin Reilly, 17, had been one of a number of people waiting on Glasgow Road, Clydebank East, in the early hours of the morning.

But when the taxi pulled up and picked up two other people instead of Reilly, he angrily launched the bottle at the cab, Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last week.

The bottle smashed the back-left window and caused £300 of damage - but fortunately the driver and the passengers were uninjured.

Paul Aird, fiscal depute, told the court that police had been on patrol nearby on Mill Street and witnessed the incident.

Reilly's lawyer, Steve Wight, said his client pleaded guilty to throwing the bottle to the danger of the driver and passengers on July 19 this year.

And he told the court that Reilly had already lodged £300 with his office to compensate the driver.

Mr Wight said: "[A taxi] arrived and in his drunken state he thought the taxi was for him and it had taken someone else.

"In a moment of madness he threw the bottle."

Sheriff Simon Fraser ordered Reilly, of 21 Dean Court, Clydebank, to pay £300 compensation and sentenced him to 120 hours of community service.

A WOMAN is desperate for support from the courts to help her get back on the straight and narrow.

Claire Hagen, 25, set fire to a poster in a cell at Clydebank police office on April 21 2007.

She was in the cell after being arrested for a breach of the peace at a pub earlier that day and for possessing cannabis.

She had previously pled guilty and appeared at Clydebank District Court on Thursday to be sentenced for the offences and for a further charge of being found in possession of cannabis on June 12 2007.

Her lawyer told the court: "When I appeared for Miss Hagen a while ago the situation was that she asked to be imprisoned and she was.

"Now that she is out it might benefit her to have some sort of back up."

Justice David Grainger ordered a social inquiry report to be prepared for Hagen, of 90 Braes Avenue, Whitecrook, and told her to come back to court on October 8 to be sentenced.

A SHOPLIFTER has been given a chance to prove she has turned over a new leaf.

Fiona Ogilvie, 21, stole items worth £64.65 from ASDA, Clydebank, on November 3 2007.

She had previously pled guilty to the theft and appeared at Clydebank District Court on Thursday to be sentenced.

Justice David Grainger said that he has been considering a supervised attendance order but on reading her social inquiry report and seeing that she was making an effort to attend programmes such a addiction service Alternatives, he decided instead to defer sentence for a further six months and call for another social inquiry report.

He told Ogilvie of 22h Craigbanzo Street, Faifley, that if she stayed out of trouble there was good chance she could be admonished.
