Breakthrough act sought to perform live

THE town is gearing up for another fun-filled day by the water - with a chance for a breakthrough act to take to the stage on home soil.

The Clydebank Canal Festival takes place on Saturday July 4, and some exciting plans are already in place to make the event go with a bang.

The YOUR Radio team will be on hand to introduce the talented acts and entertain the crowds through a day of fun beside the Forth and Clyde canal.

And the station is inviting the town"s talent to get in touch with them if they want to appear on stage, along with singer George Kennedy, Jim Smart as Freddie Mercury, Real Rythemz and vocalist Alana Wright.

More acts will be announced and this year will also see a special duck race, organised by St Margaret"s Hospice, where up to 3,000 sponsored rubber ducks will take to the water in a bid to win their owner a week"s holiday and spending money.

The fun day has a huge fan in Clydebank"s Provost Denis Agnew, and he told the Post he was looking forward to this year"s festival.

Provost Agnew said: 'We thought up the canal festival a couple of years ago and it has really put the focus on Clydebank.

'Last year obviously we had a lot of rain but it was still great and supported by hundreds of people. Touch wood, the weather is looking a bit better this year and we are hoping people turn up in their droves.'

YOUR Radio"s Dave Ross said: 'It"s a chance for a local act to get on stage and perform in their home town at one of the biggest events of the year.'

If you think you have got what it takes to light up the canal festival as a singer, dancer, music group, cheerleader or other entertainer, email dave@yourradiofm.com and one act will get a chance to perform.

A spokesman for St Margaret"s said: 'It is fantastic to be given the opportunity by West Dunbartonshire Council to be part of the Clydebank Canal Festival and to hold the sponsored duck race, which will be the finale to the festival.'

Provost Agnew is also delighted that St Margaret"s will take centre stage for the finale to the day, and hope they sell all the sponsored ducks for a memorable race.

He added: 'The St Margaret"s duck race will be great - I think it is wonderful they are doing it and anything we can do to boost St Margaret"s funds I am up for.

'It is one of my favourite charities.'
