Town chroniclers plan retrospective visual feast
A BUDDING film maker has teamed up with the creator of a popular website charting the town"s past for an exciting visual project.
And sentimental Bankies are being sought to feature in the documentary.
After seeing a story about Owen McGuigan"s My Clydebank Photos site in the Post, film producer Iain McGuinness got in touch with the snapper about filming a retrospective DVD feature on the town.
Iain, who has recently made a music video with Glasgow-based rapper Kobi Onyame, was impressed by the nostalgic element of the shots from the late 70s and early 80s and hatched a plan to interview knowledgable townsfolk about their recollections of the time of great upheaval for Clydebank.
Tenements were being torn down while the industries Clydebank had come to rely upon - the shipyards and Singers factory - were waning in tough economic times.
Called Clydebank Through a Lens, the feature will be made up of interviews, re-enactments of past scenes and photographs from the past and the present.
The project excites Owen, who has been taken aback by the attention his site has received.
He said: 'Clydebank was going through such huge changes at this time - from around 1978 to 1980. It makes a fascinating time to focus on.
'Iain and I go out and show people the old pictures in the hope of sparking conversation about the era.
'The plan is to intersperse the old pictures with shots of how the town looks now to show the change.
'We"ll begin shooting for this at the weekend.'
Owen believes the partnership with Iain is set to pay off and hopes the images make for fascinating discussion.
He said: 'You forget how Clydebank used to look - looking over the photographs I remember things like the big digital clock at the shopping centre, and walking though the snow at the shops before it had a roof put on.
'Iain has got a real vision and strong ideas and I feel like I know what I want myself.
'So hopefully it will be worth watching.'
Iain McGuinness is appealing for Bankies to contribute to the film by getting in touch with him on 07949252250 or emailing hello@andorproductions.co.uk.
