CLYDEBANK Army Cadets lived up to their motto “to inspire to achieve” during their recent summer camp.

The group, pictured above, were involved in an adventure and challenges camp during the two week event near Liverpool.

The Clydebank Cadets and staff sergeant instructor Bobby Marsland joined nearly 300 young people from across central and western Scotland at the annual summer camp.

The large group of cadets, from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion Army Cadet Force, were accompanied by a selection of the 50 or so adult volunteer leaders.

Lieutenant colonel Gilly Moncur, of the Army Cadet Force, said: “There was a real buzz as the cadets looked forward to meeting up with old friends, and making new ones, as well as tackling the tree top high ropes, clambering over the assault course, sleeping out under canvas, cooking Army rations, chasing the wind in sailing dinghies, improving their marksmanship, paddling dragon boats and generally having a great time.

“They have truly lived up to the cadet motto, 'to inspire to achieve’.” The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation open to boys and girls aged between 12 and 18 who are keen to have fun and enjoy adventure. It is sponsored by the Army but is not part of it and there is no commitment for members to join the Armed Forces.

The ACF also provides opportunities for adults as instructors and helpers aged from 18 to 65.
