HIGH-flying children from a Faifley after-school club have scooped a prestigious award for their multimedia skills in a university competition.

Pupils at the Gowdie Club, based in Faifley Parish Church, won the prize for the best video in the Science in Everyday Life contest at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

The delighted youngsters also won the runners-up prize for the primary six and seven image category in the event, organised by the academic institution’s Really Small Science group, based in its chemical and process engineering department.

Recognition for the pupils came after they took part in a project organised by the university which aimed to inspire and enthuse younger generations about science and engineering through interactive workshops.

Joy Leckie, group coordinator, said: “The event was a great opportunity for the pupils to experience and visit a university first hand and find out more about the important research that is being undertaken here.

“The images and videos created by the pupils were outstanding and it made our job extremely difficult when we had to choose the winners. I particularly enjoyed watching the Gowdie Club’s video of a volcano eruption.

“I never knew Faifley had live volcanoes.”
