The 33-year-old lives in Dumbarton was elected in 2010 with a comfortable majority, by taking 61 per cent of the votes.

She told the Post her greatest concerns for West Dunbartonshire are jobs and opportunities for young people, and protecting the NHS.

And asked how she could alleviate these areas of concern, she said: “We need to stop the Tory austerity agenda and we need to stop the austerity plus programme which the SNP are inflicting on our local public services. The Labour Party will support all of our young people whatever path they take and we will invest to stop the crisis in A&E.” Ms Doyle joined the Labour Party in 1997 when she was just aged 15 and has been an active member ever since.

A burning desire to knock the Conservative out of office caused the then teenager to enlist into Labour’s ranks.

She told the Post only her party can deliver the change Scotland needs.

Gemma said: “The Labour Party will raise the top rate of tax so that the richest pay more, guarantee a job with proper pay and training for young people who have been unemployed for a year, and fund an extra 1000 nurses in Scotland.

“One of the first things the Labour Party will do is scrap the Bedroom Tax. Locally, I will be campaigning for a new health centre for Clydebank and for A&E this side of the Clyde.” Prior to being elected as an MP, Ms Doyle worked as a political officer for the party. In her past, she has worked as a cleaner, barmaid, Avon representative, a case worker and a conference producer.

Set aside work and politics, Ms Doyle likes cooking, reading crime and thriller novels and taking in scenery at Loch Lomond.
