Natalie Doherty became responsible for Clydebank’s community investigation unit in September 2014 and has since focused on culling antisocial behaviour and violent crime.

“The people of Clydebank have been incredibly supportive and active in letting us know what issues are of most concern to them and we are listening to them,” Inspector Doherty told the Post.

“We know that tackling violent crime and antisocial behaviour are major concerns. We have implemented several successful operations to address these concerns, such as targeting known offenders in the Whitecrook area, which resulted in 23 people being reported to the procurator fiscal. A significant amount of intelligence was also gathered to further our proactivity.” This work to reduce the amount of violent crime in Clydebank appears to be having an impact as the local force, L Division, consistently has low levels of crime, high detection rates and high levels of public satisfaction, Inspector Doherty reports.

Recognising the majority of anti-social behaviour is the result of alcohol abuse, police have targeted retailers who sell alcohol to those under-age. Inspector Doherty added: “The hard work and effort put in by officers and members of police staff within L Division has been exceptional and I am personally very proud of the quality of service we have been able to deliver. I look forward to the next six months as we go from strength to strength.”
