Jordan Docherty turned up at the wrong address in Nairn Street and asked if he could come into the bash but, after he was turned away from the door, he climbed onto the veranda of the house and started banging on the window.

After being told to leave again, the 19-year-old made the chilling bombing threat.

Docherty appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week and admitted committing the offence while on bail for another crime.

Procurator fiscal depute Isobel Martin told the court: “The complainers were having a Hogmanay party when the accused attended at their door. He was heavily intoxicated and asked if he could come in but was refused as he is not known to them.

“He then went on to the veranda and started banging on the window before again being told to leave.” Docherty, who lives in Dundonald Road, Paisley, shouted that he would petrol bomb the house and the police were immediately called.

Officers arrested him when they arrived on the scene and he pled guilty to committing the offence during an earlier court appearance in October.

The court was told that Docherty was now hoping to turn his life around by travelling to Africa to work for a charity.

Defence solicitor Bert Thomson said: “He was considerably the worse for drink. He was the victim in a very serious road traffic accident and is recovering from a very serious head injury. Progress has been slow and his recovery has not been as fast as had been anticipated.

“Mr Docherty is about to undertake voluntary work in Tanzania.” Referring to a criminal justice social work report that had been prepared for the court, Sheriff Colin McKay said: “In view of the terms of the report, I am satisfied that I can deal with this matter by imposing a community payback order with a supervision requirement.” Docherty will now be supervised for the next 12 months.
