Members of the organisation — which is a spin-off of the Yes Clydebank campaign group — met recently to agree their mission statement and elect a chairperson.
They are now pledging to support local groups who share their goals and are calling on fellow Bankies who believe in an independent, socially just Scotland to join them.
At the meeting in Dalmuir CE Centre, which was attended by more than 30 Clydebank Yes Alliance (CYA) members, the group formalised its Mission Statement.
It reads: “We are a broad based community, campaign movement, that is aligned to no single political party. We are working towards the goal of an independent socially just Scotland, that actively promotes equality of opportunity for all.” To do this they agreed to “work alongside organisations and individuals who are working towards the same goals.” Members also elected Dawn Fyfe as the group’s new chairperson. The 45-year-old community activist, a project manager for an organisation supporting young survivors of sexual abuse, played a key role in the referendum campaign as organiser of the local Women for Indy group.
Dawn said: “These are exciting times. The local people who were involved in the Yes campaign have decided that we want to continue to work towards a more socially just Scotland. We will be talking with people in Clydebank and fighting alongside them on the issues that are important to them, such as welfare reform, fuel poverty and fracking.” The next CYA meeting is on December 10 at 7pm in Dalmuir CE Centre and all are welcome.
