St Andrew’s First Aid, Scotland’s first aid charity, is inviting people along to the Y-Sort It Centre in West Thompson Street on Wednesday and Thursday, from 6pm until 8.30pm each night.

The awareness sessions are being held throughout Scotland as part of Scottish First Aid Week (Nov 24-30). This volunteer-led project will see the charity’s first aiders facilitating workshops within their own communities, giving them the opportunity to tell their fellow Scots about the life-saving difference that first aid can make in an emergency.

Each session will follow a tailored two hour programme designed specifically for the project, giving people the opportunity to learn basic first aid skills such as CPR which could save a life in an emergency.

Stuart Callison, the charity's chief executive, said: “When planning Scottish First Aid Week we asked our volunteers what they would like to do to raise awareness of the charity as well as funds. Overwhelmingly the answer was that our volunteers simply wanted an opportunity to connect with their communities and demonstrate that anyone can learn first aid skills.

“Communities are at the heart of St Andrew’s First Aid’s mission – we believe that no one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it.

“By demonstrating the difference that first aid can make, we hope to see a more resilient Scotland with more lives being saved through first aid intervention.” All sessions are being run at no cost to the participant, although donations are welcome. The charity is aiming to raise £30,000 through Scottish First Aid Week, with all funds donated helping them to increase awareness that first aid can save lives.
