We told last week how Linnvale man David Cooke was working hard to gather support for a community council to serve his area and Drumry.

Dalmuir mum Carla Belkevitz is also trying to enlist the 20 people required to create a similar organisation in Dalmuir and Mountblow.

Carla is appealing for people interested in helping to improve these areas to get in touch.

She said: “As a mother-of-two I see a community that’s forgotten itself and how wonderful it was. Dalmuir and Mountblow both still have an absolutely fantastic community spirit.” Only four of a possible seven community councils are currently running in the Clydebank area — Faifley; Clydebank East; Old Kilpatrick; and Parkhall, North Kilbowie and Central Community Council.

Dalmuir and Mountblow Community Council has not been in operation for a number of years due to a lack of volunteers.

Carla is keen for that to change, saying: “West Dunbartonshire Council and the local police are there to serve our community but how can they do that effectively if we don’t tell them what we need?” “I appeal especially to younger people aged 16-20 — we want you on board. We need your ideas, your energy, for change.

“We have a butcher’s, baker’s, community centre, a fantastic local library, lots of the many things that most communities lost long ago.

“We have a lot worth fighting for and I want to see all the energy under the umbrella of our own local community council.
