This comes after the law on intestacy — what happens to your estate when you die — changed on October 1.

Steven Wight, from Philpott Platt Niblett & Wight solicitors, is offering the service on a voluntary basis to help people write their Will this November during Will Aid’s Make a Will Month.

Instead of charging a fee the firm is inviting the will maker to contribute a voluntary donation to Will Aid, which supports nine national charities including Save the Children and the British Red Cross.

The suggested donation is £95 for a single basic will, and £150 for a pair of basic matching or ‘mirror’ wills.

It does not matter whether you are 18 or 80 years old, if you want your worldly possessions to go to particular individuals or organisations, you need to have a valid will. Shirley Marsland, campaign manager for Will Aid said: “I would urge everyone to think seriously about what would happen if they died without a will. Even if you think your affairs are simple, you can leave unnecessary stress and trouble behind if you die without a will. “ The Philpott Platt Niblett & Wight office is on Miller Street and appointments can be made by calling 0141 952 9545.
