Kilbowie Primary School youngsters are involved in the BIC Back to School Collection Contest — which will see them gather as many used writing implements as possible to be recycled.

It is part of a nationwide competition by stationery company BIC and recycling experts TerraCycle, with prizes to be dished out to those who collect the most used pens and pencils.

The school is renewing its stationery recycling efforts.

Julie Cameron, from Kilbowie Primary, said: “Kilbowie Primary School joined the Writing Instrument Brigade in 2010 and so far we have helped to save 6,042 writing instruments from landfill raising £116 in the process.

“The funds raised have been donated to the CHAS children’s hospice to help children who have life shortening illnesses.” The primary school is also taking part in a collection box design contest called The Great Collection Box Challenge.

A prize will be voted on at on TerraCycle’s website, www.terracycle.co.uk, and the winner’s school will receive a cash prize and BIC goodies.
