Angler Robert McKeown, of Cloan Avenue, had been fishing from a boat when he fell into the water on the east side of the loch. Police divers and the emergency services rushed to the scene.

The body of the 67-year-old was discovered close to Rowardennan pier on Saturday afternoon.

So far efforts to trace the family of Mr McKeown have been unsuccessful and police have released a picture of his bus pass in an effort to track down relatives.

Robert was known to friends and as Bob or Bobby and worked as a painter and decorator. He was an experienced fisherman but it is understood he could not swim.

Staff from the Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB), HMS Gannett, HM Coastguard, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service were all in attendance at the scene.

Shocked neighbours have been unable to assist the police in their attempts to trace Mr McKeown’s relatives.

Cloan Avenue resident John Connolly had been unaware that the loch tragedy had involved his neighbour until informed by the Post.

He said: “That is terrible news. Bobby lived on his own and kept himself to himself but he would always said hello.

“He was a painter and would pop into Oliver’s pub now and again after his work.”
