Ross Russell was told he was “sailing close to the wind” at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

That’s after he admitted stealing less than £3 of goods from a petrol station shop in Milton.

Russell, of Radnor Park in nearby Clydebank, was released on bail from court last month after appearing from custody.

He was caught on CCTV stealing “numerous packets” of cold meat from the Marks and Spencer store at the BP Service in Milton.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard how the 39-year-old had a “substantial record” and that drink was a major factor to his offending.

Returning for sentencing last week, Sheriff John Herald gave Russell a warning about his behaviour.

He told him: “You’re sailing close to the wind Mr Russell. Commit another offence and you can expect a lengthy prison sentence.” Sentence was deferred for three months for Russell to be of good behaviour and for the preparation of a supplementary Criminal Justice and Social Work report.

He will return to court on November 4.
