Laura Martin is hoping fellow Bankies will reap the benefits, like she did, when her own weekly class gets under way next month.

Progress with healthy eating did not come straight away for Laura — the social worker had tried a string of diets and healthy eating plans without much success.

The 27-year-old told the Post: “I had been trying everything but nothing really worked.

“I would try a diet for a few days but wouldn’t stick at it.

“It wasn’t down to a lack of exercise. I had been doing plenty but didn’t seem to be losing weight.” At the beginning of 2012 — with a wedding on the horizon — a friend began attending Slimming World and encouraged the bride-to-be to do the same.

After overcoming some initial scepticism, Laura started going along to classes and never looked back.

She said: “I can eat as much as I like and don’t need to have separate ‘diet’ meals, so everyone can eat the same dinners.

“The portions are good sizes so I am never hungry. I have never eaten as much food as I do now.

“It has also taught me how to cook which is much better than eating frozen meals all the time.” Laura achieved her target weight two months before her big day, losing two stone four pounds.

Last year — with the patter of tiny feet imminent — she told how the priority was the safety of her unborn child but this still fitted into a Slimming World plan.

She said: “I was delighted to discover that Slimming World welcomed pregnant and breastfeeding mums.

“I was reassured that food optimising was a healthy, balanced diet benefiting both Quinn and myself.

“Food optimising with Slimming World feels so natural, the extra easy plan fits in with the whole family, I love everything about it.

“Nothing is off limits so I never feel I’m missing out and I have so much energy — essential for being a happy, hands-on mummy.” Now with nine-month-old Quinn to look after, Laura explained evening classes can be tricky and is hoping other mums — and dads — in similar positions will find a weekend slot offers some more flexibility for slimmers in Clydebank.

She added: “There is a lot of interest in a Saturday morning club.

“Lots of young parents have been in touch with me about it.

“For me, it’s important that the club is open to everyone. I’m totally committed to helping others within the community to realise their weight loss dreams and lead healthier, happier lives.” Laura Martin’s Slimming World group opens on Saturday, August 2 at 9.30am.
