With less than a week to go until the start of the Commonwealth Games many of our officers have already been deployed to help deliver a safe and secure event.

This is one of the busiest and most exciting periods in Police Scotland’s short history, but as the local area cCommander I am committed to ensuring it is business as usual across the North West.

I have every confidence that the careful planning along with the commitment and professionalism of my team will see us meet the challenge of supporting the Games while continuing to serve our local community.

Things kick off on Monday, July 21 with the Queen’s Baton Relay visiting the North West. Our very own Mark Barrow, who was formerly the campus police officer at Drumchapel High School, will be one of the baton carriers and I am sure it will be a great day.

Make sure you are prepared by checking out www.getreadyglasgow.com.

With the good weather and school holidays starting it has been a busy time for your local policing team. I am please to report however that there has been little by way of serious crime.

On July 5 a 29-year-old man was seriously assaulted by a group of men following a disturbance at the Shell Garage on Bearsden Road. We are continuing to interview witnesses while carrying out CCTV enquiries.

The four suspects are described as smartly dressed with baseball caps and I would urge anyone with any information to contact the Glasgow North West CID team through the 101 number or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

After listening to your concerns about shopping within Drumchapel we have joined up with the Co-op Group who own the shopping centre and now have two dedicated police officers based within the centre.

We hope you are already seeing a difference and I would welcome your comments so we can evaluate the progress made and decide if this is worth a longer term commitment.

I look forward to seeing many of you during the Queen’s Baton Relay and hope you enjoy the Games.
