The race is on for glory after the West Dunbartonshire Sports Personality Awards (WDSP) were launched for 2014.

An inaugural bash celebrating the achievements of the area’s athletes will take place in Clydebank Town Hall on Friday, June 6.

For the last seven weeks you have been nominating those who you think deserve an award — and now it’s time to vote.

You can vote in any, several, or even all of the 12 categories, with the nominees printed on the right.

Vote as many times as you wish, using the form which will be printed each week in the Post regularly up to the closing date Monday, May 4.

The top three with the highest votes go through as finalists to be judged by our special panel of judges and the winners announced at the Awards Dinner.

It will be hosted by the Post’s sister station YOUR Radio, in conjunction with West Dunbartonshire Leisure, sportscotland and West Dunbartonshire Sports Council.

Alan Crawford, from WD Leisure, said: “The backbone of sport in West Dunbartonshire belongs to all the various sports clubs coaches, volunteers, officials and athletes.

“Without these people giving up their time and dedicating themselves to aid the development of others, there would be no sporting opportunities within our local area.

Everyone involved in volunteering within sport, from the parent that cleans the team kit after every game, to the volunteer that drives the mini bus, is a sporting hero.

“The 2014 WD Sports Awards are going to be bigger and better than ever and will provide an amazing spectacle that will recognise and celebrate local people’s dedication, motivation and success in local sport.

“2014 is going to be an unbelievable year of sport for Scotland. We have the Commonwealth Games in July and Ryder Cup in September.

“The excitement is definitely building in our communities and I would encourage everyone to nominate their sporting heroes for the 2014 Sports Awards.” To find out more, and to vote visit www.wdleisure.net or use the voting form opposite.
