Led by housing association the Link Group, the project was the final phase of work to pull down nearly 300 flats in two sites near the Forth and Clyde Canal.

During the work on Dumbarton Road, Link worked with members of the local community and partner agencies including Dalmuir Tenants and Residents Association.

It followed two new four-storey blocks being built on Jellicoe Street, along with low-rise houses with gardens along the south side of Castle Street and Beatty Street.

A statement on Link’s website said the housing mix of the new scheme would ensure that those who are less mobile could access their homes more easily and families could enjoy more spacious properties with gardens.

A spokesperson for the Link Group said: “This is the last phase of the planned demolitions. All tenants who lived in the flats have now been re-housed.

“Link is considering the options for the site in conjunction with West Dunbartonshire Council.” A spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Council said: “The council is committed to ensuring that the aims and aspirations around affordable housing supply contained within the local housing strategy are realised and looks forward to meeting with Link Housing Association to discuss their plans for the site in the near future.”
