The Clydebank Post revealed last month how the town’s most vulnerable residents had been given a unique warning about avoiding tragedy in a play by watching the light-hearted performance of a play entitled Home Sweet Home.

The drama is used to prevent accidents and promote safety among elderly residents of sheltered housing in West Dunbartonshire and focuses on important issues including fire in the home, trips and falls, security and bogus callers.

The play was commissioned by West Dunbartonshire’s Community Safety Partnership to get the home safety message across to local elderly people by informing them of the simple measures they can take to prevent accidents.

Performed by the Kickstart Theatre Company, it has been staged at sheltered housing complexes based in the town’s Young Street and Second Avenue.

Councillor David McBride, convener of neighbourhood services said: “The play delivers potentially life-saving messages in a way which will engage residents. It’s an example of the great partnership working which exists in West Dunbartonshire.” Paul Connelly (pictured), West Dunbartonshire area commander for the fire service, added: “Fire in the home can be truly devastating. Even where no-one is killed or physically injured, house fires can cause lifelong emotional trauma and huge financial and personal loss.

“Crews throughout West Dunbartonshire work tirelessly to prevent fires and we are determined to pursue every avenue so life-saving fire safety messages reach the people we serve.”
