Officers from British Transport Police believe the recent assault may have been football related.

At around 2.55pm on Saturday, April 12, an altercation between a group of men, which had started on the 14.36pm Glasgow Central to Drumchapel train, continued on the platform when the train stopped at Drumchapel station.

During the incident a 34-year-old man was struck and fell to the ground before falling on to the track sustaining a leg injury. He was then taken by ambulance to the Western General hospital for treatment.

Another man in his company, aged 18, was uninjured.

The four other men believed to have been responsible for the attack are described as being in their late teens or early 20s with short dark hair and made off from the station through the car park towards Garscadden Road.

One was wearing a green parka jacket with a red top underneath, denims and white trainers.

Another was wearing a black jacket with a grey top underneath, denims and dark shoes.

The third man was wearing a white jacket, denims and white trainers and carrying a yellow bag while another was seen to be wearing a black jacket with a green top underneath, black trousers, white trainers and was carrying a black sports bag.

Detective Constable Andrew Egan has now appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.

He said: “It is my understanding that this incident may have been football-related.

“This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and others travelling on trains should be able to do so without encountering it. Anyone who was on the train or at Drumchapel station, which was busy at the time, is asked to come forward with information which may assist our enquiries.” Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
